Reading Sci Fi Stories

  1. Make several copies of each short story. Students will pick one of the stories to read.
  2. Students will divide their stories into 4 sections, and choose two of the eight 8-boxes per section to write a response. (8-box sheets are available in the English office)
  3. The responses will be assessed in the reading strand using Criterion A. Levels are right on the activity sheet.

These short stories were selected from the Hugo Awards Website. The Hugo Awards find and recognize exceptional and current science fiction short stories. Students feel free to visit the Hugo Awards website if they want to read free science fiction on their own.  http://www.thehugoawards.org/

  1. Synthesis Question: After responding to their story, students should about 500 words answering this question: Is your story worthy of a prestigious Hugo Award - why or why not? Students should give examples, and should write using correctly formed paragraphs. Mark using Rubrics A and C.
